The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Thursday hosted the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, as part of efforts to strengthen security collaboration in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector.
The delegation, led by the Committee Chairman, Ikeagwuonu Ugochinyere, met with the Police Management Team and other senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force to deliberate on strategies to safeguard critical petroleum infrastructure and ensure stability in the sector.

A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, Ag. ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed that the working visit was convened to deliberate on strengthening security collaboration in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector, a vital component of the nation’s economic stability.
Speaking during the visit, Ugochinyere commended the IGP for what he described as proactive leadership in protecting national energy assets. He noted that the Police had played a crucial role in stabilising operations during recent industrial tensions, strengthening inter-agency cooperation, and tackling oil theft and pipeline vandalism.

He stressed that sustained collaboration between the legislature and security agencies was essential to securing Nigeria’s downstream petroleum operations, which remain central to the country’s economic stability.
In his remarks, Egbetokun expressed appreciation for the committee’s recognition and reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to intensifying surveillance and enhancing intelligence-sharing mechanisms to curb criminal activities in the sector.
The IGP also called for strengthened legal frameworks and improved funding to support personnel training, acquisition of modern surveillance equipment, and improved welfare for officers deployed to protect petroleum infrastructure.
He assured that the Police would continue to work closely with relevant stakeholders to restore stability in vulnerable communities and guarantee uninterrupted access to energy supplies nationwide.
The visit underscored ongoing efforts to reinforce security around Nigeria’s petroleum assets and boost investor confidence in the downstream segment of the oil and gas industry.
