…SAYS “PEACE, UNITY, OUR CORE VALUE”

By Okosun Dennis

In a desperate push to galvanize peace, progress and fostering cordial relationship among Ohaneze Ndigbo in Lagos state, and to address the lingering leadership tussle confronting it, the Executive Committee of 2022/2026 and other stakeholders, have called for truce with a view to addressing some internal wranglings in the group.

At a press conference in Lagos on Tuesday, 24th February, 2026, held at TimeOak Royal Hotel and Spa, Lekki-Lagos, the Acting President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Lagos State, High Chief Linus Igbudu, who doubles as the Vice President for Enugu state, explained that the group is facing enormous leadership challenges which was initiated by the former President Solomon Ogbonna.

In attendance were Chief Robert Obasi, Secretary General; Chief Daniel Onwah, Chairman of Chairmen (C of C) in the 57 local government areas of the state; Nze Johnpaul Ezenwaka, former C of C; Ubochi C. Ubohi, Apostle Pat Nwanze, stakeholders and Mrs Violet Uche Obiorah, Publicity Secretary.

Chief Igbudu further disclosed that the former President single handed threw up crisis that has engulfed the whole spectrum of the united body leading to litigations and counter-court order.

It was learnt that Ohanaeze Ndigbo maintains four years tenure in every elective positions without a second term. However, having exhausted his tenure of office, the former President, Solomon Ogbonna, surreptitiously concocted a devious act by clandestinely securing a court consent judgement to elongate his stay in office by another four years.

This act, which, the present leadership explained was for his self-aggrandizement, greed and to create a rancorous and undemocratic atmosphere, has significantly set back Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State, and by extension, the leadership of the National Executives.

High Chief Igbudu noted that to bring peace and allow democratic norms to flourish, the local government areas Chairmen and key stakeholders, have engaged in extensive discussions focused at reconciliation and healing the wounds.

“We have reached high-level decisions that will not only address past grievances but also reposition the Ndigbo-Lagos on path of growth, inclusiveness and unity.”

Ohaneze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo sociocultural organization, the acting President observed, is known for peace, justice, unity, love, not rancour, division and acrimony. Therefore, a single person cannot make the group degenerate because of his personal interest laced with greed.”

He stated for that singular reason, “it has made mockery of Ohaneze amongst the Igbos and people of the state where we reside.

“That is what we want to stop. We want to champion a new Ohaneze that is devoid of rancour, greed, selfishness, and galvanize inclusiveness,” Igbudu reiterated.

As a vibrant organisation, “We recognize the importance of transparency and open communication in our mission. Our objective is to safeguard and promote the interests of Ndigbo community in Lagos in alignment with the principles of Ohaneze Ndigbo worldwide.”

Despite concerted efforts to broker peace and ensure every dispute resolved, Chief Ogbonna was said to disregarded it. Rather, he organised a “Kangaroo” reunion party in consonance with his defacto supporter, Mr. Leonard Okafor.

In its unwavering commitment to peace and reconciliation, and to abrogate the the bitterness and rot within Ohanaeze, two Committees have been constituted by the Executive Committee, Chairmen and key stakeholders to bring all the warring factions together in the interest of peace and safeguard the good image of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

A verisimilitude of the Peace and Reconciliation process in South Africa and the Oputa panel in Nigeria, Igbudu added, the two Committees, “Local Organising Committee (LOC)”, to be chaired by Dr Kevin Oguine and Dr Lady Ada Ofegbu as the Secretary, and “Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC)”, to be chaired by Nze John Paul Ezenwaka and Asomugha Johnpaul as secretar
