In a bold step to accelerate public sector reform, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has launched a targeted digital transformation drive at the Federal Character Commission (FCC), equipping the Commission with modern data tools and critical digital skills to strengthen transparency, efficiency, and accountability in public service oversight.
The intervention — which combined hands-on digital literacy training with the donation of 35 laptops — is aimed at repositioning the Commission from paper-based processes to a fully data-driven operational model. The move is expected to significantly enhance the FCC’s ability to monitor equitable representation across government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
The initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly the priority of improving governance and reforming public institutions for inclusive growth and effective service delivery.
Held at the Commission’s headquarters, the specialised training focused on data analysis and data management — core competencies required for evidence-based oversight and institutional performance improvement.
Representing NITDA’s Director General, Kashifu Inuwa, the Acting Director of Digital Literacy and Capacity Building, Dr Ahmed Yusuf Tambour, stated that the programme was carefully designed to align with the FCC’s statutory mandate.
“We are here at the Federal Character Commission to carry out training for staff in the area of digital literacy to enhance their proficiency,” he said.
“We are particularly focusing on data analysis and data management because this aligns directly with the core mandate of the Commission.”
A total of 35 staff members participated in the training, which was described as impactful and well received. To ensure sustainability, NITDA donated 35 laptops to facilitate continuous learning and seamless integration of digital tools into daily operations.
By strengthening digital capacity within the FCC, NITDA is reinforcing its broader commitment to building a modern, technology-driven public service capable of delivering transparent governance and inclusive national development.
