A new Chairman of Lekki Atlantic Gardens Resident Association (LAGRA), Alabeko, has emerged. He is Pastor Fisayo Sogbola. He was declared the winner and returned elected by the Chairman, Lekki Atlantic Gardens Independent Electoral Commission (LAGIEC), Dr. Adeyemi Adelakan, on Saturday having pulled 45 votes in the re-run after last Saturday’s elections failed to produce a winner. The election which was held at the Estate Secretariat, Road 1, Alabeko started at about 4 pm and ended 6 pm.

A breakdown of the vote cast indicated that 38 voters were accredited and voted while eight voters were accredited for the diaspora online. Out of which, seven people voted for the candidate while one rejected.

Reacting to his victory in the poll, Fisayo Sogbola, an architect by profession, thanked all the voters for believing in him and casting their votes in the re-run elections.

He promised to run an all inconclusive administration that would bring about transcendental transformation, robust reconciliation to Alabeko, and better reposition the estate in terms of developmental imperatives.

While speaking with our Correspondent, Fisayo explained, “I want to appreciate God and the entire Alabeko people for the peaceful re-run election. For those who voted for me and those who couldn’t, I say thank you. If not for your votes, victory wouldn’t have been possible.

“I am immensely grateful for the peaceful and orderly conduct of the election. To the Electoral Commission, they did fantastically very well. The voting process was good and the online voting was superb. It was a transparent process.”

On his tenure, he reiterated, “Our tenure is going to be very peaceful, full of fun and everybody is going to be happy at the end of the administration.

“My promise to Alabeko residents is that they have put us in charge and we are going do everything to suit their interest. There is nothing we are going to do that would be devoid of residents’ interest.

“This is the time for transformation. We need to transform Alabeko and that is why everybody must be a partaker.

Interestingly, he averred that he would co-opt and work with his co-contestants with a view to moving the estate forward.

“If my fellow contestant was declared the winner today, I would have supported him just I supported the incumbent when I lost to him two years ago because the success or failure of Alabeko will directly affect me,” Pastor Fisayo emphasized.

Shortly after he was declared the winner, the Secretariat went frenzy with jubilations, hugging and parting on the back congratulating one another for his victory.

Responding in the capacity of the EC Chairman, Dr. Adeyemi Adelakan expressed joy and satisfaction for successfully conducting the election.

He added that the electorates have spoken noting that they can “improve on what we have achieved in subsequent elections. We have also learnt a lot of lessons that will guide us in the future to perform better, he observed.

“For me, I am happy because it has been a long road; a long process, and very grateful that we have brought the process to a logical conclusion,” Adeyemi concluded.

It would be recalled that LAGRA General Elections was held on April 24, 2021, to elect new Executives to run the affairs of the estate. However, it failed to produce a winner for the Chairmanship position hence a re-run was fixed for today, May 1, 2021.

Other positions that emerged in the previous elections were the office of the Vice-Chairman which was won by Mr. Emmanuel Nwokporo, Treasurer, Mr. Akintunde Abiodun, Public Relations Officer, Mr. Olukayode and Welfare Officer went to Mr. Mbachu Chimezie.

Elected officers will be sworn in at a later date yet to be fixed by the present administration.
