An attempt to attack Etim Ekpo Area Command and Division at about 6:30 am, on Tuesday, May 12, 2021, by armed men with AK 47 rifles and other dangerous weapons have been foiled by the police.
In the process and unfortunately, a dedicated Officer, one Police Constable Edogi Bassey, lost his life while a small portion of the building was said to have been damaged.
The gunmen were said to have launched an attack having stormed the rented building housing two stations in two vehicles.
It was further gathered that the undaunted and vigilant Police Officers on duty, fought back and repelled them thereby averting the intended carnage.
Confirming the development, the Akwa Ibom police spokesperson, SP Odiko MacDon explained that the gunmen also proceeded to Ika Division to perpetuate their nefarious activities and were successfully repelled also leaving the Station intact without loss of lives or arms.
He, however, disclosed that the “unacceptable worrisome trend is being addressed by the Police hierarchy and requires the collaboration of all.”
The Commissioner of Police, CP Amiengheme Andrew, who is going round formations and Divisions to ensure alertness and safety of officers, men and the people of the state, has called on law-abiding Citizens to volunteer timely information that would enable the Police to tackle the present security challenges.
