It was a bumper harvest for police operatives under the Delta State Police Command as they have intercepted two Police imposters and recovered a stolen vehicle and a toy pistol from the suspects.
The suspects were identified as Bankole Odusi of No. 19 Sango Ijoke Street Lagos wearing a police uniform and Samuel Idowu, 49 years of No. 1 Olatunji Mall Market, Lekki-Lagos, also was wearing a T-shirt with police colour.
Confirming the arrest on Wednesday, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Ari Mohammed Ali explained that during a “stop and Search” on July 31, 2021, by RRS operatives at head bridge Asaba, they were intercepted while driving a Ford vehicle with REG No. 9791F7.
On interrogation, they initially claimed they were police officers, but later admitted to being spy police. During a search conducted on them, a Toy Beretta pistol was recovered. However, an investigation is said to be ongoing with a view to establishing more facts to prosecute them.
In another development, serial Kidnappers with three single barrel guns and one locally cut to size gun were arrested on July 28, 2021, at about 2100hrs while acting on intelligence. It was disclosed that the Kidnapper who has been terrorizing Agbor and its environs was smoked out after the Area Commander Agbor activated surveillance team to Alifikede.
The Commissioner added that “The operatives on arrival surrounded the area which made it impossible for the suspects to escape; leading to the arrest of Adamu Bayero, a male and 43 years old.
It was gathered that the suspect had a bullet injury sustained from the gun duel with Police during a previous kidnap operation and one Mohammed Ahmed, 26 years old were arrested.
However, further investigation led to the recovery of three single barrel rifles, one locally-made pistol, and nine cartridges.
The suspect took detectives to their hideout in Ogah bush, where their other gang members ambushed the police, leading to an exchange of gunshots hence the two suspects were decapitated in an attempt to escape and be arrested but one additional locally made cut to size gun was recovered from the scene.
Unfortunately, both of them died in the hospital while receiving treatment from the gun shot wounds.
In his remarks during the briefing, CP Ali attributed the successes recorded so far not only to the Police but to all well-meaning persons who have been assisting the police by providing them with “timely and useful information” in the fight against criminal elements in the state.
