…MOURNS DEATH OF FRONTLINE SECURITY EXPERT

The National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP), has expressed great shock over the death of iconic security strategist and analyst, Dr. Ona Ekhomu.
Expressing the Association’s condolences in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, Mr. Eric Elezuo, the National President, Mr. Samson Oki, said the death of Dr. Ekhomu came at a time when the country needs more of his wealth of knowledge and experience, adding that though he will be missed, he will never be forgotten.
“Ekhomu is a security encyclopedia, whose efforts have greatly impacted the nation and the world at large. He proved himself as a force to reckon with, providing strategies and other sundry mechanisms to support the fight against insurgency, banditry, and other crimes. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten in the security world,” Oki said.
He added that NAOSNP regrets his death especially as he is one of the speakers penciled down for the Association’s security conference due to hold in November.
Ekhomu, who held dual citizenship of both the United States and Nigeria, died on August 9, 2021, after a brief illness at the age of 66.
Born in 1955 to Augustine Ogbeni and Cecilia Edowaye Ekhomu in Irrua, in Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo state. He had a Diploma from the Nigerian Institute of Journalism in 1974, a Bachelor Summa Cum laude Voorhees College, 1977, a Master of Arts Iowa State University, 1979, and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Pittsburgh in 1985.
He was a leading voice in security-related matters and gave his time, expertise, and resources in trying to find an end to Nigeria’s security challenges.
Until his death, he was the Chairman, TransWorld Security Systems Limited and the President of the Association of Industrial Security and Safety Operators of Nigeria (AISSON).
His highly acclaimed book on security awareness: Effective Personal & Corporate Security (2009), Kidnap: Face to face with death (2014), and his most recent book: “Boko Haram: Security Considerations and the Rise of an Insurgency.”
He is the Africa Representative of the International Foundation for Protection Officers (IFPO).
