A proactive step taken by the Ekiti Police Command has led to the rescue of one Alabi Segun of Ilefon Street, Iye-Ekit, after he was whisked away from his house by kidnappers.
The incident which took place on August 19, 2021, about 1830hrs, drew the attention of the police after a distress call was received that unknown eight gunmen suspected to be kidnappers stormed the residence of the victim, captured and whisked him away in a Toyota Camry car to an unknown location.
Confirming the rescue operation, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti State Command, ASP Abutu Sunday said in a statement on Saturday that the suspected kidnappers started calling the victim’s family members through a particular GSM number demanding ransom.
He explained that when Police was updated with the development, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) swung into action and trailed the suspected kidnappers to their hideouts.
“On sighting the RRS operatives, the suspected kidnappers took to their heels, abandoning the victim and two Toyota Camry Cars. The victim was rescued and the two abandoned cars recovered while effort is ongoing to ensure the arrest of the fleeing suspects.”
The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Tunde Mobayo while commending the swift response of the operatives of the RRS, implores everyone to be vigilant and supply timely and credible information to the security operatives that would lead to the arrest of criminal elements in the State.
In another development, a drug Baron identified as Ojo Fadeyi Femi has been arrested in Atikankan area of Ado-Ekiti.
It was gathered that the police working on credible information had on August 20, 2021, about 2330hrs went against a group of hoodlums suspected to be armed robbers were in the Atikankan area of Ado-Ekiti.
When they stormed one of the known blackspots in Ado-Ekiti, the hoodlums took to their heels culminating to the arrest of Ojo Fadeyi Femi.
ASP Abutu added that “The scene was searched and items such as 43 wraps of weed suspected to be Indian hemp, 40 wraps of white powder suspected to be cocaine, two sharp cutlasses and N52,750 were recovered.
The arrested suspect claimed the ownership of the exhibits recovered and also confessed to being a Drugs-Baron, while effort has been activated to arrest the suspects at large.
