It was a pensive solemn mood as the remains of the late CSP Kazeem Abonde, who was killed by motorcycle riders popularly known as Okada at Ajao Estate in Lagos was on Friday laid to rest at his home state in Ibadan, Oyo state.
The late CSP Abonde was killed in a bid to enforce the restriction of the commercial motorcyclists.
Earlier before his corpse was transported to Ibadan, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu had paid his last respect to the fallen hero with senior officers at the Command Headquarters, Ikeja.
Family members, friends and relatives, and some residents of Abonde community, Ibadan in Ona Ara Local Government Area received his body which was conveyed by colleagues led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Lagos State Command, Ahmed Kotangora.
Widow of the late officer, Idayat and his young children described the deceased as a loving husband and a caring father.
The family members who wailed uncontrollably at his sudden demise described their brother’s death as a rude shock.
The elder brother of the deceased officer, Alhaji Kehinde Musbawudeen, called on the police authorities to do the needful to ensure that the killers of his brother do not go scotfree and are adequately punished.
Extolling the qualities of the late CSP Abonde after the burial, DCP Kotangora described him as “a courageous and dedicated officer” who played a dominant role in ensuring the ultimate success of police operations against criminal elements in Lagos State.
He added that the police wasn’t sleeping over his death as the command has begun an investigation into his killing with a view to bringing the culprits to justice in no distant time.
It was learnt that preparatory to his retirement from the service in nine month’s time, the senior police officer was planning of setting up a Law Chambers considering that he has a Masters degree in Law before he was gruesomely murdered at Ajao Estate while on active duty.
