The Nigerian Navy has announced the death of its former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ishaya Iko Ibrahim at the age of 69 years old.
Admiral Ibrahim died on the 4th of January, 2022, and was in the service of the Navy for 35 years before his retirement from active service.
Before passing on to glory on Tuesday, he was the Chairman, Board of the National Inland Waterways Authority.
In a statement by the Naval Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, signed by the Director of Information (DINFO), Commodore Suleman Dahun, regretted his demise but said the late Chief of the Naval Staff served the nation in various capacities.
“Prominently, Vice Admiral Ibrahim (rtd) was actively involved in the ECOMOG Operation LIBERTY in Liberia during which he commanded the Nigerian Navy Ship OFIOM and Nigerian Navy Ship AMBE respectively.
“Thereafter, he served as the Deputy Defence Attaché in Cotonou, Republic of Benin. The late Admiral was also the Chief of Logistics Naval Headquarters and later Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command.
“He was the Flag Officer Commanding Naval Training Command before his appointment as the 18th Chief of the Naval Staff.
Cdre Dahun added that the burial arrangement would be communicated in due course.
