A 26-year-old Paul Ogilo has revealed that he killed one Twere Shipiode, male and aged 29 years old for accusing him of making attempt to rape his daughter in his house.
The suspect who was arrested with a kitchen knife with which he committed the murder confessed to killing the man after a brawl ensued at Otu-Jeremi, Delta State.
The Delta State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Bright Edafe said in a statement on Friday that the Divisional Police Officer, Otu-Jeremi Division, got a distressed call on January 12, 2022, about 2100hours, that a man was stabbed to death at Otu-Jeremi community in Ughelli South Local Government Area.
The DPO was said to have mobilized and led Police patrol teams to the scene, where they found the lifeless body of the man in a pool of his own blood and the house deserted.
Investigations revealed that there was an altercation between the deceased named Twere Shipiode and Paul Ogilo, leading to a fight.
As a result, the police trailed the suspect to an uncompleted building in Otu-Jeremi where he was seen with a kitchen knife suspected to have been used in committing the crime and he was immediately arrested.
Upon interrogation, the suspect admitted committing the dastardly act but explained that a fight ensued between him and the deceased after the deceased found him in his house and accused him of attempting to defile his daughter.
He stated that during the fight, he used the kitchen knife to stab the suspect on the neck. The suspect is in custody and investigation is ongoing.
Meanwhile, in another development, on January 12, 2022, about 0248hours, Police operatives attached to the Command Raiders unit, raided a black spot at Ogarafe, Oghara in Ethiope West Local Government Area during which 20 suspected cultists were arrested.
However, a fabricated wooden gun, 648 wraps of weed suspected to be Indian hemp, one used female pant, various charms, one Knife, 16 bottles of codeine, 10 packs of razlers, one Grinder used in grinding weeds and the sum of N69,000 were recovered.
The Commissioner of Police Delta State, CP Ari Muhammed Ali, has mandated all Area Commanders, DPOS, Tactical Commanders to sustain the tempo and ensure that continuous raids of black spots are carried out within their areas of responsibility.
The CP also admonishes parents and guardians to caution their wards to desist from buying, selling, or taking hard drugs as anybody caught will be arrested and prosecuted.
