…PROMISES TO STRENGTHEN SECURITY, DEAL WITH CULTISM, KIDNAPPING

The newly appointed General Officer Commanding (GOC), 81 Division, Nigerian Army, Kofo Abayomi, Maj Gen Umaru Musa has assumed duty and assured citizens of his area of jurisdiction that he is fully prepared to improve security in Lagos.
Speaking during the handing and taking over from his predecessor which took place at the Conference Room of the Division on Monday, said, “I come fully prepared to ensure that the peace people have been enjoying in Lagos continue. I will improve on security in Lagos and ensure everywhere is calm.
“The problem of cultism and kidnapping that have been around in some areas would be addressed. I charge my officers to remain steadfast, loyal to constituted authority, and discharge their job professionally in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s strategic directives.
The outgone GOC, Maj Gen Lawrence Fejokwu decorated the new General Officer Commanding with the Division’s insignia and accouterments as well as handing over the flag of authority.
Speaking with our correspondent, Maj Gen Lawrence Fejokwu said that “The challenging moments would always come in form of insecurity and we tried to nib it in the bud by being proactive to ensure that it doesn’t escalate. And to my successor, he will handle it squarely as a seasoned infantry officer and I have no doubt about his abilities.
“I want to thank the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Faruk Yahaya for this opportunity to serve as the GOC. And for the media, I thank you all for your massive support during my stay here at the Division.
Earlier in his remarks, Maj Gen Lawrence Fejokwu said today was a landmark in the history of his life and career having commanded the Division for 11 months.
He observed, “This is an electioneering year, we are not cut off from this arrangement. Some of you with character traits, need to up your game. You must observe and understand how to act without necessarily waiting for the GOC. Take the right decision and when you make an honest mistake, that would be understood but be proactive.”
To my successor, “I know you will succeed especially with your depth of experience.” He urged officers and soldiers to give the new GOC their best just as they gave to him too.
The highpoint of the brief ceremony was the Quarter Guard formalities and hoisting of a new flag commencing the official assumption of office as the General Officer Commanding GOC 81 Division Nigerian Army, Lagos.
Before his appointment as the GOC, Maj Gen Umaru Musa was in the office of Manpower and Planning, Army Headquarters, Abuja.
Also, Maj Gen Lawrence Fejokwu has been appointed as the Executive Director, Nigerian Army Standards and Evaluation, Army Headquarters, Abuja.
