Luck ran out of a notorious Port Harcourt-based armed robber who had sneaked into Delta State with the intention to carry out the dastardly operation but was swiftly arrested by policemen attached to “A” Division, Warri.
According to the Delta State Police spokesperson, DSP Bright Edafe in a statement said on Friday that on the 2nd March 2022 about 1024hrs, intelligence gathered revealed that one Richard Tobi, a male of Obibo Port-Harcourt, Rivers State who specializes in snatching vehicles was around Warri, hence operatives of ‘A’ Division Warri were detailed to trail and arrest him with a view to seeing that he is brought to book.
Consequently, “the suspect was trailed to Mammy market Effurun in Uvwie LGA where he was arrested and different vehicle plate numbers recovered from him.
Further investigations led the suspect to his base where one Toyota Hilux with Reg. No. UYY 210 GT suspected to have been stolen at Akwa-Ibom was recovered. He is presently facing prosecution in a court of law.
Similarly, on the 1st March 2022 about 1100hrs, the Police patrol team attached to ‘B’ Division Warri while on routine patrol along Okere market junction Warri, intercepted a four-man armed robbery gang who were operating in a mini bus with Registration No: Delta DSZ 912 XA.
When they sighted the Police team, according to DSP Bright Edafe, the robbers shot at the Police and zoomed off hence they were chased into the Makaiva market while exchanging gunfire with them.
It was learnt that the robbers alighted from the vehicle and ran into the crowd at the market but one of the suspects was arrested with gunshot injuries he sustained during the gun duel.
The suspect identified as Christopher (surname unknown) confessed to being a member of the armed robbery gang that robbed a POS lady at Osubi-Orerokpe earlier in the day.
The suspect was taken to General Hospital, Warri where he died while receiving treatment. The mini bus, one expended cartridge, two POS machines, two female bags containing two Zenith bank ATM cards, one driver’s license bearing Ogagbe Godspower, one power bank, and a Bible were recovered. Manhunt for the fleeing members of the gang is ongoing.
In another development, about on the 1st March 2022 about 1200hrs, operatives of Eagle-Net Special Squad on Aberdeen system of patrol along Asaba Benin Expressway intercepted a white coloured Toyota Hiace commercial bus with reg. no. AGB 439 XT conveying passengers from Benin to Onitsha.
While subjecting the passengers to routine search, one locally-made pistol, one expended cartridge, a complete military camouflage uniform, one Samsung S8 mobile phone, some substances suspected to be Indian hemp, one army coloured wristwatch, two other wrist watches and clothing were recovered from a male passenger named Billy Saul, aged 30 of No. 12 Ekae Street, off Sapele Road Benin City.
The suspect, a native of Akunza in Lafia LGA of Nasarawa State is undergoing further investigation.
Similarly, on March 3, 2022, the DPO Isiokolo led a combined team of Police/vigilante and raided a suspected kidnapper’s den in Kokori, Ethiope East LGA, and recovered one locally cut to size gun and six live cartridges. Efforts are on to arrest the suspects.
