It was a solemn moment at the headquarters of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command as 29 deceased families of slain police officers were rewarded with life insurance cash benefits of their dead fathers.
The reward was in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Alkali Baba Usman, who ordered that cheques be presented to the deceased families of 29 police officers who died in active service.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Babaji Sunday, alongside the Deputy Commissioner of Police, presented the cheques to the beneficiaries today, Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at the Command Headquarters in Abuja.
CP Babaji commended the Inspector General of Police for assisting in reducing the hardship faced by the families of the deceased police officers.
According to him, the gesture was part of IGP’s Group Life Assurance aimed at improving the welfare of the families of deceased police officers.
“Also, the gesture is aimed at spurring officers to greatness while discharging their statutory duties with the assurance that their welfare is of paramount importance to the administration of the force.”
“There is no greater honour than that of serving one’s nation with sweat, love, and blood. Today, we can forge ahead because of the great sacrifices of our heroes and on whose strength we are here to celebrate”, he said.
The CP Sunday further said the beneficiaries who are families of deceased officers, were officers who lost their lives in active service from 2021 to date.
Some of the families got N3million cheques, while others got N2million and N1million respectively.
The police boss urged the beneficiaries to use the money wisely by investing it in a profitable venture that would improve the living conditions of their families.
