Following the unfortunate clash between some soldiers and policemen at Ojo leading to the death of a policeman, 81 Division, Nigerian Army has set up a Board of Inquiry to look into the circumstances that led to the death.
Confirming the position of the Division, the Acting Deputy Director 81 Division Public Relations, Major Olaniyi Osoba said in Lagos on Friday that
“The Division has instituted a Board of Inquiry to unravel the circumstance surrounding the unfortunate incident.
Meanwhile, a delegation led by the Commander, 9 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brig Gen Isang Akpaumontia in the company of the Commander, 81 Military Intelligence Brigade, Brig Gen KN Nwoko and Commander 81 Provost Group, Brig Gen ML Abubakar have paid a condolence visit to the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Abiodun Alabi, over the unfortunate death of a Police Inspector during an altercation with some soldiers at Ojo in Lagos.
Major Osoba further explained that “At the end of the investigation, anyone found culpable will be made to face the full wrath of the disciplinary provisions.”
“The Division was already in touch with the Lagos State Police Command with a view to resolving the matter.
“This incident is highly regrettable given the Division’s disposition and zero tolerance for any misconduct.
He noted that the attention of the 81 Division was drawn to the story online over the unfortunate incident that occurred between some soldiers and policemen around Ojo in Lagos which resulted
in the loss of the life of a police officer.
The Division has commiserated with the Ojo Police Division and members of the family of the victim.
It would be recalled that some policemen who were said to be at the checkpoint had stopped vehicles to allow a truck to meander into the road when their actions were challenged by the soldiers for rudely stopping their movement.
It was gathered that the argument degenerated leading to fisticuffs before he later died in the hospital.
