The wife of Benue State Governor, Dr. Eunice Ortom has gifted and empowered 58 women and youths in Guma Local Government Area, with N25 million.
Mrs. Ortom, the founder of Eunice Spring of Life Foundation (ESLF), while making the donation said the gesture was her little way of giving back to society.
She disclosed this on Sunday, August 28, at NKST Church, Gbajimba during a Thanksgiving Service organized by Nongov Women Development Association to celebrate her fifty year’s birthday.
The Benue First Lady, however, stated that the beneficiaries were selected from Nzorov, Kaambe, Saav and Abinsi council wards of the local government as the first pilot phase of beneficiaries.
She added that the cash and the kits were to support them in farming and other business ventures.
According to her, the gesture was actively supported and assisted by some of her friends. She challenged the beneficiaries to utilize the funds judiciously by multiplying them and become self-reliant adding that they should as well empower others.
Dr. Mrs. Ortom thanked her husband, Governor Samuel Ortom for his support of her pet project, the Eunice Spring of Life Foundation, ESLF in actualising the desire of uplifting the living conditions of Benue women and youths.
She, however, expressed appreciation to God for blessing her with the golden age of 50 years and other good things of life, stressing that the support of the Benue people through prayers has also provided a shield for her and the family.
The Governor, Samuel Ortom, thanked his wife for standing in the gap through ESLF, in reaching out to the people, especially women and youths in the area of education, health, and economic empowerment.
He admonished the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the empowerment kits and funds to create a positive impact in their chosen areas.
Governor Ortom enjoined other youths to find something doing no matter how little.
In a statement, the Chief Press Secretary, Nathaniel Ikyur, on Sunday said the Deputy Governor, Engr. Benson Abounu acknowledged the humility of the First Lady, pointing out that she is a dedicated woman and an immense supporter of the Ortom-led administration.
The Chairman of the occasion, and Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, and PDP Governorship candidate, Rt. Hon. Titus Uba described the celebrant as a worthy mother to all.
He stated that she has redefined parenting and impacted many tremendously in various spheres of life.
The Chairlady of the occasion and Chairman, Benue Internal Revenue Service, BIRS, Mrs. Mimi Adzape-Orubibi thanked God for the life of the First Lady.
She acknowledged the industrious lifestyle of the First Lady and sees her as a woman whose humanitarian interventions for the less privileged and the vulnerable are immeasurable.
