The new Commander, 81 Division Garrison, Nigerian Army, Dodan Barracks, Brig Gen Musa Abubakar Sadiq has called on officers and soldiers not to engage in partisan politics but to obey laid down laws guiding the electioneering process.
He gave this advice while addressing troops of the Garrison at the Parade Ground, Dodan Barracks on Thursday, shortly after taking over the mantle of leadership of the formation from his predecessor, Brig Gen Nasiru Nagidada.
He reminded them to maintain a good standard of discipline and conduct themselves very well as soldiers especially now that “we are approaching a challenging period of electioneering.
“Election comes with different challenges. As you know, political competitors want compromises but we are not partisan and must shun every inducement and compromise. Let us go by the dictates of the laws guiding the process.
“We should remain as colleagues and brothers but obey the rules and regulations. I am delighted to take over the command. The place may be new but not new in the system.
“I will maintain the standards kept by my predecessor and we will keep the flag flying. To all of you, I expect nothing less from what you gave to my predecessor,” Brig Gen Sadiq emphasized.
Earlier, the outgone Garrison Commander, Brig Gen Nasiru Nagidada thanked God for having a smooth tour that spanned 15 months without any major problems.
He commended the troops’ dexterity, proactiveness, and loyalty that galvanised them into a successful tenure. However, while enjoining them to be good ambassadors of the army and their families, he solicited their unalloyed support and should extend the good cooperation he enjoyed from them to his successor.
High points of the handing and taking over were the signing of notes and the decoration of the new Commander by Brig Gen Nagidada with the formations insignia, accoutrements as well as the handing over of the formation’s flag of authority.
In addition, there was also the quarters hoisting of flag commencing the beginning of a new administration at the 81 Division Garrison by Brig Gen Musa Abubakar Sadiq.
Brig Gen Nasiru Nagidada took over command of the 81 Division Garrison on May 1, 2021, and handed over today, September 1, 2022. He has been redeployed to Defence Headquarters, Abuja.
