In an attempt to protect Nigeria’s educational institutions from the vagaries of attacks from organised criminals, the Special Female Squad of Anambra State Command has begun sensitization towards safe school initiatives.
They began the process with a visit to Adorable British School, and Community Secondary School Umuokpu both in Awka on Friday, October 7, 2022, for an awareness campaign in her effort to have a safer school and learning environment.
The State Commandant of NSCDC Anambra State Command, Isidore Chukwudi Chikere said following directives by the Commandant General of NSCDC, Dr. Abubakar Audi, the command embarked on the visit aimed at creating awareness among students and teachers on the role of the Specialised Female Squad and NSCDC as a government institution in curtailing security threats around schools nationwide.
According to him, the visit afforded the Female Squad an opportunity to sensitize the students and teachers on their roles in gathering credible intelligence and speaking out in cases of suspected movements around the school environment.
DSC Okoye Ngozi, the female Squad Commander who led the delegation said the sensitization awareness sought to equip students and teachers with the requisite knowledge, skills, attitude, and behaviour on the promotion of peace, security, stability, and social cohesion as well as build their resilience levels to contribute effectively to curbing crime through information sharing with the Security agencies.
The event was a success as the school administrators, teachers and students were extremely appreciative of the gesture from the NSCDC in preparing them to be alert and responsive to odd situations that they may face.
DSC Okadigbo Edwin, the Public Relations Officer for the State Command added that the visit dovetailed into an interactive session with both the teachers and students.
