MY LIFE AFTER THE STORM – ANGELA DAVIS
Born in a garret with a rough social background of an unattractive storyline, was an injustice for a 15-year-old girl growing up on the streets of the then most dangerous place to raise a child – Baltimore, Merlin United States of America.
Her growing up wasn’t a juicy one but very brutish, and hopeless.
Yet, after many years of abuse, abandonment, injustice, denial, and without a single role model in her life, she was able to step out of the dungeon that the nature of Baltimore, threw up to her.
This is the humble story of Angela Davis, who grew up on the streets of Baltimore and moved to Los Angeles in 2017.
According to her, she suffered from what many people would go through growing up and living in poverty with little hope, no role models, or advantages.
She, with strong character and resilience to survive, overcome domestic violence, prostitution, prison, drug and alcohol abuse.
Today, Angela decided to become an advocate for domestic violence prevention. She chronicled her life story in a book entitled “Restoration: Revolving Doors.”
Author, humanitarian, philanthropist, social activist, and international counselor, Ms. Davis has demonstrated a willingness to reach back to those who have suffered from drug and alcohol abuse, domestic abuse, homelessness, and poverty.
Her passion for communities is unmatched, packaged in the truth about realities of life that can “at times” be misinterpreted as judgment.
A woman with a big heart, her compassionate heart for people, especially those who are going through her childhood experiences, always rises above the hard-line approach and that’s why she identifies herself with those who have suffered from some of the same issues that confronted her earlier in life.
Angela’s testimony is not only a signpost but a book to read which can stand to be used by the broken and disadvantaged, with hope and conviction that there is “life after the storm.”
“My name is Angela Davis; I am an author and presenter. I am also an advocate for domestic violence prevention. I was born and raised in Baltimore, Merlin United States of America.
“Baltimore is one of the most dangerous cities in America. If you can survive in Baltimore City, you can survive anywhere in the world.
“There was a time in my life that I didn’t want to leave, I had a vice spirit and the vice spirit came from a very young age; I witnessed my stepfather abusing my mother from his fist to her ribs and then I reluctantly became abused of domestic violence.
“By the time I was 15 years of age, I felt myself falling into the same harm to spite my stepfather in the streets of Baltimore. I felt myself also wanting to fit in carrying guns for people just so I can feel loved by the community.
“I will carry 9 million meters, 357, a 38 special and I would do whatever it takes to fit in because I was a dare-devil and you know it was cool.
“Eventually, I started going to jails, institutions and prisons. I found myself committing all robbery, daytime burglary and into prostitution.
“And I was like hopeless I had no hope in the city of Baltimore. I found myself walking in the streets of Baltimore wondering if there was a way out.
“I was an atheist, I was born atheist, I didn’t believe in any God, because I was like if there was a God then why am I being abused so much by my stepfather, by my children’s father and those that was abusing me in the street. I even was raped by someone that I trusted you know set up by friends in the home.” She narrated.
According to her, while on the stony journey, she saw hope which took her years before she could see her worth.
“I went into the prison system looking at 14 years for all-round and I thought maybe it would have gotten better for me when I came out, I gave the time back I wrote a story called RESTORATION REVOLVING DOORS.
“I shared my whole story so I’m able to go to the prisons now, the high schools and the colleges but it took many years for me to know my worth as a woman.
“I am a mother of 6 children and 11 grandchildren and today I empower women, empower teenagers. I do suicide interventions because I know how it is to commit suicide.
“I put a 38 special to my head waiting to blow my brains out. I was addicted to heroin, cocaine, pappy pills and drinking some.
“I would drink a heavy gallon of Jack Daniel in a day. I had air on my chest, all I wanted to do is numb my pain. I was hospitalized 19 times in a little hospital throughout the state of America.” She said.
Today, Angela said she is irritated by her old life style that in the last 30 years, she hasn’t touched cocaine and heroin or alcohol, her former goodies.
“I am clean and sober I haven’t touched heroin and cocaine in over 30 years or alcohol pills 16 years of sobriety. I am so excited to live a clean and prosperous life today, in that way I am able to help those struggling with the same addiction I had struggled with.
“I’m happy to say that I checked myself into rehabilitation so that I can learn how to live a prosperous and clean life in today’s society. I’m no more a menace to society but a great assets to those who struggled with the same addiction I had struggled with.
“Never give up on your life. I don’t care the situation or the circumstances; Jesus Christ is the healer and redeemer. I gave my life to Jesus in 2003 and it took a long process of me to be where I am at today. I had to learn how to love myself, forgive those who hurt me, forgive myself so that I can be healed and be made whole.
“You can change if you want to change; if I can change, you can change. Giving back to your community, trust someone and don’t allow your situation or circumstance control you.
“You don’t have to prostitute, you don’t have to commit crimes, sell drugs, and commit robbery. There is hope. I go on to the college; I’m looking to accomplish my PhD in Psychology.
“I am here living in California, Hollywood. I’m working on my film and I’m determined to open up a transitional home for women and children.
