Headquarters, Zone 2 Command of the Nigerian Police, Onikan, has announced the arrest of a 40-year-old Anthony Bamido Peter for fraudulently obtaining loans under false pretense.
Confirming the arrest on Sunday, the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, Zone 2 Command, DSP Hauwa Idris Adamu, said a complainant, identified as Ikupoluyi Oluwatoyin Sunday, had reported to the office of the AIG Zone 2, Lagos, that he was introduced to the alleged suspect, one Anthony Bamido Peter, who claimed he needed the sum of ₦90,000,000 to execute a purported project.
Based on that, he gave him ₦50,000,000 and in lieu of that, the suspect Anthony deposited three vehicles.
The brands of the posh cars are: one Mercedes-Benz E300 and two Lexus LX570 SUV with original documents of the vehicles as security for the loan.
In addition, the suspect was said to have transferred the ownership of the vehicles to Mr. Ikupoluyi and prepared an agreement for him to liquefy the securities should he defaults servicing the loan and completely repay within one month.
Similarly, the suspect Anthony Bamido was also said to have given a Mercedes-Benz GLE450 to Pruval Trading International as security in another loan of ₦10,500,000; in the same vein, making total number of vehicles he fraudulently collected from the car agent four which amounted to ₦124,000,000.
DSP Hauwa further explained that in the course of investigation by the operatives of Zonal Intelligence Bureau (ZIB), it was discovered that the suspect, Anthony Bamido was arrested, investigated and arraigned for similar offence by Special Fraud Unit of the Nigeria Police four years ago, which confirms the suspicion that the suspect is hell-bent on swindling unsuspecting victims of their monies and valuables.
The authority of Zone 2 has, therefore, warned members of the public to beware of such persons with same modus operandi adding that investigation was ongoing and the suspect would be charged to court for prosecution as soon as investigations are concluded.
