The Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has renewed his administration’s desire to build a befitting housing estate for civil servants in the State.
He made his feelings known at the Government House, Umuahia during the inauguration of an Implementation Committee on Abia Civil Service Housing Scheme on Friday. The Committee has Hon. Theophilus Ugboajah, the state Commissioner for Housing as Chairman.
The governor represented by his deputy, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu charged the Committee to find out reasons the previous attempt by past administrations to give Abia Civil Servants a befitting Housing scheme failed and use their findings to work on and come up with modalities to make the Housing scheme a reality within a short time.
The Governor further urged the committee to work out modalities to fast track the ongoing federal government housing scheme and see how it will be of benefit to them and the state in the drive to give Abia civil servants a housing scheme.
He tasked the committee not to hesitate to give government any information or advice that will be of help in achieving the laudable objective and assured them of government support in carrying out their assignment.
In his remarks, Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Chris Ezem said that the state was willing to give or donate land for development but would want the federal government to come and build their Secretariat on the land allocated to their agencies.
Responding, chairman of the committee and Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Theophilus Ugboajah assured that members of the committee would work relentlessly to achieve government’s desire of giving Abia civil servants a befitting housing scheme and stressed the need for communities in the state to donate their land for meaningful development.
Other members of the seven-man committee include the Chairman, the Secretary, Engr. Alozie Nwankwo, Sir Onyii Wamah, Hon. Suleim Ukandu and Okezie Ugboaja.
The Deputy Chief of Staff, Office of the Deputy Governor, Sir Don Ubani and Permanent Secretary, Government house, Mr. Odoemela Alozie were present during the inauguration.
