Abia State Polytechnic (AbiaPoly), situated in Aba, is one of the prestigious tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The institution which was established in 1992, has in the past, gone through devastating crisis, but was not scuffled, as it has now become the technology hub that produces Elephant Electric Renewable Energy Bulb.
However, with the intervention of Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu-led administration in the state, coupled with the new Governing Council, led by Elder John Nwangborogwu and the focused new Rector, Dr. Okoro Kalu Osonwa, the once derided higher institution has gotten back its stand and improving on the successes so far recorded.
The cheering news is that TETFUND project is back to the school and work in progress, the technological ingenuity of the school is activated and working, while the lecturers and staff have expressed hope of a more conducive working environment, while the issues of salary are being sorted out and would soon be a king of the past.
A report by newsmirrorng.com quoted the Head of Department, Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology, Engr. Kelechi Inyama as saying that the department is being motivated by the good and friendly disposition of the new Rector, Dr. Osonwa, propelled by the zeal to reciprocate his calm and friendly engagement.
Speaking further, Engr. Iyama stressed that the Elephant Electric Renewal Bulb is the best bulb in the country and that its production, is aimed at increasing the revenue base of the school.
He however pointed out that the department is facing challenges which include lack of funds and the usage of manual tapping equipment which makes quantity production a little slower, while soliciting assistance by the government and good-spirited Nigerian businessmen to come and partner with the school for mass production, instead of going to import from abroad or to buy from other states of the federation.
With these feet, we can boldly say that Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, is changing the narrative and the Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu led administration has yet scored another first in the promotion of locally manufactured goods and Enyimba Electric Bulb is yet another ‘Made In Aba’ product.
