ACCELERATION OF CONTRACT EXECUTION: ANSEC APPROVES PROMPT PAYMENT SYSTEM FOR CONTRACTORS

Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) has approved a prompt payment system for contractors in the state to ensure none of them is owed, a policy that has been in place since the inception of Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s administration.

The decision was reached at the 15th ANSEC meeting held at the new government house known as the Light House Awka, on 21st July 2025.

According to the State’s Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, the move is to enhance the payment system, which has been very effective for the past three years when Governor Soludo commenced governance.

This comes after a recent recognition by the Organised Labour in Anambra State of Governor Soludo’s incredible performance in office, which also reflects his prompt payment of salaries.

It has been discovered that while other states struggle with unpaid salaries and pensions, often taking loans to pay partial salaries and facing stalled negotiations, Soludo’s administration has carefully cleared inherited arrears and implemented 10% increased salaries for all levels of state workers and pensioners.

Soludo has also implemented one of the most worker-friendly wage structures in the Southeast, as he graciously approved N82,000, the highest in the Southeast, exceeding the N70,000 national benchmark given his implementation of the minimum wage structure announced in 2024.

The organized labour leaders remarked that it is the first time a minimum wage has been fully implemented in Anambra State. Leaders from the Organized Labour Anambra chapter highlighted Soludo’s visionary leadership and significant efforts to transform Anambra into a centre of economic and infrastructure excellence.

The most groundbreaking shift is Soludo’s “Productivity First” approach. Rather than creating an adversarial dynamic, his government has trained workers in information communication technology (ICT) skills through the state ICT Agency and provided laptops to enhance productivity.
