Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has urged politicians and residents of the state to demonstrate maturity, tolerance and restraint as preparations gradually begin ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Governor Eno gave the advice during a special Inter-Denominational New Year Thanksgiving Service held at the International Worship Centre, Uyo, cautioning against actions capable of undermining the prevailing peace and unity in the state.
He commended political leaders in Akwa Ibom for what he described as their mature handling of sensitive political issues, noting that the atmosphere of peace currently enjoyed across the state was a collective achievement that must be sustained.

“I want to thank all our leaders, especially our political leaders, for allowing peace to reign in our state. This is the hallmark of maturity. Everyone can feel the peace as you move freely across the state, and this atmosphere of peace will continue throughout the year,” the governor said.
As the political season approaches, Governor Eno urged citizens to engage in constructive political discourse without resorting to insults or disrespect, stressing that differences in opinion should be expressed with civility.
“There is nothing wrong in making your point. You have the right to disagree, but let us disagree respectfully. We don’t have to see things from the same perspective, but let this peace we are enjoying continue,” he cautioned.
The governor also spoke on the newly introduced Treasury Single Account (TSA) system in the state, seeking the cooperation of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and the general public to ensure effective implementation.
He explained that the TSA policy was aimed at improving revenue generation, promoting transparency and ensuring accountability, adding that no government department was permitted to generate and spend revenue outside the TSA framework.

“All government revenue must go into one single account. No ministry is allowed to generate and spend funds independently. This is necessary if we must fund our N1.5 trillion budget and execute projects for the benefit of all,” he said.
Governor Eno appreciated worshippers who attended the New Year service, particularly the guest preacher, Apostle Joshua Selman, Founder and Senior Pastor of Eternity Network International.
In his sermon titled “The God of All Flesh,” Apostle Selman encouraged Christians to remain steadfast and trust in God in the face of challenges, stressing the importance of humility and faith.
Earlier, the State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Bishop Chris Nyong, commended Governor Eno for his leadership and for sustaining peace in the state, urging continued unity among the political class and the citizenry.
The thanksgiving service featured praise and worship, choir ministrations, dance and thanksgiving, with Bible reading by the Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, Lady Helen Obareki.
