The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2 Command, Onikan Lagos, AIG Ahmed Iliaysu, on Thursday honourably bows out of service saying “don’t abuse power and authority given to you.”
In a ceremony that heralded his retirement which was marked with his 60th birthday, which was celebrated with pomp and ceremony by officers and rank and file, friends, and members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), was held at the Headquarters, Zone 2 Command at Onikan.
In his remarks, AIG Iliaysu admonishes officers to do always what can make a positive impact on people’s lives noting that as he rose to the apogee of his career, “it is a great day, an unprecedented date that has come to pass in my life.”
While going philosophical about life and existence, the ebullient Iliaysu who was eulogised to high heaven by friends and colleagues through oratory tribute said the challenges of life make you stronger. “When you fail, stand up and continue until you succeed.
“A positive attitude comes from a positive mind. The only cheap thing to maintain in life is truth and honesty. I am proud to be what I am; I have done well and living the service well. I have gone to so many troubled zones and operations, wherever I go, I make peace.”
He noted with enthusiasm the contributions of the press in making his work easier adding that “I cannot forget the role of the press in my success. You can’t pretend forever. Everybody will be reward according to his/her deeds.”
In his tribute, Chairman, Managing Director of Badinson Security Services, who also heads the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Victoria Island branch, Lagos, Mr. Matthew Ibadin, described AIG Ahmed Iliaysu as “a man everybody loves to associate with because of his humility. I was happy and hungry to understand the personality of Iliaysu. He operates an open door policy,” he explained.
On his part, the Deputy Commissioner of Police Adegoke Fayoade observed that the retiring senior police officer was always on top of his job and was passionate about it.
“He teaches, correct or scolds with passion. As he leaves office today, we would continue to tap on his wealth of experience. The beauty of PCRC in Ogun state is borne out of his dexterity and focus-driven leadership of AIG Ahmed Iliaysu.
However, in his tribute, a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police Gambo said Iliaysu is an “officer among officers. Wherever he went, he made a remarkable change. Even when such a place was in turmoil when he leaves, peace will reign,” he reiterated.
As he honourably bows out of service after attaining 60 years of age, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Alkali Baba Usman, has approved the appointment of Assistant Inspector General of Police, Johnson Babatunde Kokumo as replacement of the former AIG Ahmed Iliyasu as the new Commander, Zone 2, Onikan Lagos with immediate effect.
