The American University of Peace and Governance, Texas, USA, in collaboration with the African Continental Chapter of the United Nations International Peace and Governance Council (UNIPGC Africa), and Cutting Edge African Magazine, is set to honour some distinguished Nigerians at its inaugural African Strategic Leadership Lecture.
The theme of the lecture: “The Significance of Good Governance in Politics Towards Sustainable Peace and National Security,” the landmark event will take place on November 30, 2024, at the Lecture Theatre Hall, University of Lagos (UNILAG) by 10:00 am.
The programme will include lectures, discussions on governance and peace, and an award ceremony to recognize outstanding individuals who have contributed significantly to leadership, cultural advancement, public service, and other fields of excellence.
Among the awards to be conferred is the Honorary Doctorate (Ph.D. Honoris Causa), the highest honor awarded by the institution.
Speaking to journalists in Lagos, His Excellency Amb. Dr. Jonathan Ojadah, the African Continental Head of the University, emphasized the importance of the lecture in addressing issues of bad governance, poor leadership, and community disputes.
However, Brig. Gen. Babatunde Solomon Kumapayi (retd), a senior lecturer in Gender, Peace, and Security at the University of Calabar, will deliver the keynote lecture, focusing on conflict resolution and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms.
“As part of our mission to encourage excellence in leadership, we recognize and honour outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions in their respective fields,” Dr. Ojadah remarked.
In addition to the awards, selected individuals will be honoured as ambassadors for Cutting Edge African Magazine.
According to the Editor-in-Chief, Amb. Dr. Ezekiel Isidahomen (Ph.D); who is the Co-Cover of the event, honorees were chosen based on their impactful contributions to community development, empowerment initiatives, scholarship programmes, and efforts in promoting peace and development.
Some of the award categories and nominees for the (Honorary doctorate) included Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, with Honorary Doctorate Degree in Public & Administration;
H.E Mrs Bamidele Abiodun, the First Lady, Ogun State, with Honorary Doctorate Degree in Social Policy & Administration; Prof. Mike Agbedor Ozekhome (SAN) with Honorary Doctorate Degree in International Law & Diplomacy; Hon Segun Ashamu, Commissioner for Energy, Lagos State with Honorary Doctorate Degree in Strategic Management & Human Development.
Others are Hon. Laide Bakare, Actress, Film producer & Senior Special Assistant to Governor of Osun State with an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Arts & Humanities; Mr. Babatunde Surakat, Managing Director/CEO, Ridgewell Construction Ltd with an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Business Management & Information Technology.
Also to be honoured is Otunba Rotimi Ajanaku, Founder/Managing Partner Imperial Law Office and Chairman LED DUX FM Station, Honorary Doctorate Degree in Information Technology; Mrs Juliana Pinnick, CEO J CLEAN SERVICES LIMITED & Vice President, BROWNHILL GROUP with an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Leadership and Business Management; Chief Sanjay Jain, Lagos Chief, Businessman & Chairman of ICAI – Nigeria Chapter with an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Leadership and Business Management.
According to the statement signed in Lagos by Dr Jonathan Ojadah further disclosed Mr George Sichula – First Secretary, Economic & Trade, Zambia High Commission -Abuja, Nigeria with an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Leadership and Public Service Governance, Bashorun Babafemi Branch, Nollywood Actor, Bashorun of Ilugun North and Member of the Kingmaker Council Aare Jagunmolu of Orile Ilawo, with an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Arts & Humanities.
Also to be honoured include Ms Ekemezie Ifeoma Joy, Group CEO, JcKline Group with an Honorary Doctorate in Leadership and Corporate Governance; Mr Kolawole .Olatuyi, CEO, The Legendary Michael Logistics Limited – Honorary Doctorate In Leadership and Logistics Management, and also Mr. Ohi Akpengbe, MD/CEO, Crime Watch Newspaper among many others that would be awarded during the event.
It was learnt that the event will attract key stakeholders, including government dignitaries, business leaders, diplomats, and professionals across various fields, celebrating exceptional contributions to leadership, governance, and societal development.
