The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered the immediate re-arrest of two suspected armed robbers, Onyebuchi Nwobodo and Ebube Umezumba, after the discovery of an administrative error by a police prosecutor handling their case.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, on Wednesday in Awka, the Command has filed fresh charges before the High Court in Anambra to ensure proper prosecution and justice for the victims.
The statement further disclosed that new testimonies from victims have reaffirmed the suspects’ alleged involvement in the crime, strengthening the case against them.
In response to the lapse, CP Orutugu directed disciplinary action against the officers responsible for the prosecutorial error, reiterating his zero-tolerance policy on professional negligence.
“This decisive step underscores the Command’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, and the rule of law,” the statement added.
The Anambra Police Command assured residents of its dedication to upholding justice while maintaining public trust in the security system of the state.
