
Ahead of the forthcoming Anambra State gubernatorial election, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has begun an operational tour and evaluation exercise to assess the preparedness of officers and men of the Command for election duties.
According to the Command’s Spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the exercise, which commenced with a visit to the Onitsha Area Command, featured a high-visibility patrol led by the Commissioner through major routes and strategic locations in the area. During the visit, CP Orutugu addressed officers and men, emphasizing professionalism, neutrality, and strict adherence to the rule of law before, during, and after the polls.

He charged personnel to maintain discipline and uphold the integrity of the Nigeria Police Force, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to ensuring a safe and secure environment for the election. The Commissioner also reiterated the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun’s directive on the need for the Force to guarantee free, fair, and credible elections across the country.
As part of the evaluation, CP Orutugu inspected police formations, posts, and checkpoints to ensure operational readiness and adequate deployment. He commended the synergy among sister security agencies and other stakeholders working with the Police to strengthen security across the state.
The Commissioner urged residents of Anambra to remain law-abiding and to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station promptly.
