Police operatives in Anambra State have arrested a notorious motorcycle robbery suspect and two alleged receivers of stolen motorcycles in Iruowelle Village, Awka-Etiti, leading to the recovery of four stolen bikes.
The arrest, carried out in the early hours of October 13, 2025, was made by officers attached to the Nnobi Division under Ogidi Area Command, working in collaboration with the Awka-Etiti Vigilante Group. The recovered items include four Kymco 125 motorcycles believed to have been stolen from different locations.
According to the SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, the operation followed a report lodged on October 11, 2025, by a victim who recounted how he and his wife were attacked and dispossessed of their black Kata Pen motorcycle by two assailants along Awka-Etiti town.
Following the report, police operatives launched a surveillance and intelligence-led investigation that led to the arrest of one Chiemerie Okeke, identified as a notorious motorcycle robbery suspect, along with two accomplices who allegedly receive and trade stolen motorcycles.
The suspects are currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate and recover additional stolen property.
Commending the officers for their swift action, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, praised the collaboration between the police and the local vigilante group, describing it as vital to community safety and crime prevention.
“The synergy between the Police and community vigilantes remains a strong tool in our fight against crime. We encourage residents to continue sharing credible information that can help us maintain peace and security in the State,” the CP said.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police formation.
