ANAMBRA POLICE ASSURE SAFETY AS MONDAY ACTIVITIES RESUME, CLAMP DOWN ON FEARMONGERING

ANAMBRA POLICE ASSURE SAFETY

The Anambra State Police Command has reaffirmed the safety of lives and property across the state, assuring residents that adequate security measures are firmly in place to support the full resumption of social, commercial and official activities on Mondays.

Following a comprehensive security assessment, the Command disclosed that it has uncovered a deliberate and coordinated pattern of misleading social media narratives designed to spread fear, misinformation and bigotry among the public. According to the Police, such narratives are aimed at inciting panic and undermining the peace currently enjoyed in the state.

Despite these attempts, the Police Command commended the people of Anambra—Ndi Anambra—for their resilience, unity and vigilance, noting that residents have consistently refused to be swayed by divisive content. The Command described the timely sharing of credible information and cooperation with security agencies as key factors sustaining public order.

In response to the developments, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, mnips, PhD, on Saturday, February 1, 2026, convened an emergency closed-door security meeting with Area Commanders and Tactical Commanders at the Police Headquarters in Awka.

During the meeting, the CP directed the immediate intensification of intelligence-led patrols, enhanced surveillance and proactive policing operations across the state to forestall any threat to lives and property. Officers in charge of joint security formations, as well as a representative of the Anambra State Government on security, were also in attendance.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command reassured residents and visitors that Anambra remains safe and secure, urging the public to remain calm, law-abiding and security-conscious. Citizens were advised to disregard unverified social media reports and to promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police formation or through established emergency channels.

The Anambra State Police Command reiterated its unwavering commitment to maintaining peace, public safety and the protection of all residents and visitors as normal activities continue across the state.
