The Anambra State Police Command on Wednesday paraded several persons for their heinous roles at setting ablaze eleven police stations in the state and killing four policemen during the #ENDSARS# protest which was hijacked by hoodlums.
The hoodlums who went gaga and set several properties both Government and privately owned ablazed led to the death of several police officers and civilians.
CP Abang explained that over 20 vehicles including patrol and exhibit vehicles were burnt as well as an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC).
“The hoodlums also vandalized six other Police Stations and carted away motorcycles kept as exhibits while the Police also lost some rifles during the attacks.
“In the course of these heinous acts, the hoodlums murdered four Police officers including the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Osumenyi Division, CSP Akpan Joseph, ASP Agu Micheal, the Station Officer (SO), Osumenyi Division and a young Police Constable, Udegbunam Sunday Celestine leaving two others injured.
“In their state of callousness, the hoodlums also murdered and beheaded Inspector John Oche attached to the Anti- Cult Unit and burnt his body to ashes parading the streets with the deceased policeman’s head.
“In addition to the attacked Police formations, other Government and private facilities such as the Revenue House, Ocha Brigade office and private Trucks loaded with goods were attacked and valuable properties looted.
He reiterated that “Despite concerted efforts by the hoodlums to create a state of lawlessness in the State, the Command stood its ground and repelled their attacks in various formations such as Area Command Onitsha, Ogidi, Awada, CPS Onitsha, Inland town and ‘B’ Divisions.
Meanwhile, several arrest in connection with the incidents have been made by the police with several exhibits including one pump action, one Axe, three cutlasses, one smoke grenade and some quantities of dry leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa have been recovered.
Also, One AK47 Rifle stolen from Ogbunike Division has been recovered by operatives of the Command.
The arrested suspects included: Matthew Vincent, 29, of Izza North LGA of Ebonyi State, Aguonu chinedu Victor, 24, of Otolo Nnewi, Ezenagwu Ekene, 32, of Awka South LGA, Chukwuebuka Obianefo, 36, of Ihiala LGA, Okonkwo Stanley, 37, of Bende LGA of Abia State; Obumneme Omezuluike, 30, of Bende LGA of Abia State, Onyiuke Odinaka Izuchukwu, 26, of Njikoka LGA of Anambra State.
Others are: Chukwuweike Enweozo, 30, of Onitsha North LGA, Chibuzo Otiaba, 22, of Njikoka LGA of Anambra State, Ebuka Nkwoego, 26, of Ojenya Agbaja LGA of Ebonyi State, Emmanuel Okafor, 21, of Anambra East LGA, Kelechi Onyekwere, 34, of Osisioma North LGA of Abia State, Onyeka Egbemadu, 23, of Ihiala LGA of Anambra State, Samson Okoli, 23, of Ihiala LGA of Anambra State, Ugochukwu Nwagboso, 38, of Ihiala LGA of Anambra State.
Also apprehended by the police, it was disclosed are: Nwankpa Ejike, 26, of Izza North LGA of Ebonyi State and, Nwankpa Izuchukwu, 20, of Izza North LGA of Ebonyi State.
Investigation is ongoing and efforts are being intensified to apprehend other fleeing suspects in order to bring them to book.
However, CP Abang used the opportunity to commend the patriotic Youths, Traditional/Community leaders, vigilante groups and residents of Anambra State who contributed immensely to the overall successes recorded by the Command in calming the situation and restoring normalcy in the State.
Abang thanked the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Chief (Dr.) Willie M. Obiano for his invaluable support to the law enforcement agencies in the State.
He called on the people of Anambra State to be security conscious at all times and report any strange behaviour or suspicious movements to the nearest Police Station or through the Command emergency number 07039194332 for prompt response.
