The Anambra State Police Command has commended the Commissioner for Education, Mrs Ngozi Chuma Udeh, for her passion and support for the Nigeria Police Force, describing her disposition as a reflection of the growing public trust and acceptance of the Police by Ndi Anambra.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command noted that the Commissioner’s support serves as encouragement for more qualified indigenes of Anambra State to consider a career in policing in the interest of improved community security.
The Command, however, clarified that Mrs Udeh is not a regular Police officer, but a committed, police-friendly citizen who, aside from her role in government, chose to contribute to national security by joining the Police Supernumerary (Spy) Unit.
According to the Police, members of the Supernumerary unit are not regular officers and do not perform core policing duties such as armed patrols, criminal investigations, or public arrests. While they are permitted to wear uniforms, they are unarmed and provide support services when required.
The Police Command emphasised that the Commissioner’s involvement underscores the role of civic responsibility and community participation in security matters, stressing that effective policing thrives on public trust and collaboration.
Reaffirming its commitment to professionalism and strengthened community partnerships, the Command said it remains focused on working closely with stakeholders to ensure the safety and security of lives and property across Anambra State.
The Command also urged eligible youths in the state to take advantage of ongoing and future recruitment exercises into the Nigeria Police Force, noting that increased participation of local indigenes is critical to effective community policing and sustainable security.
