ANAMBRA POLICE, POCACOV TO LEAD STATEWIDE WALK AGAINST CULTISM, SOCIAL VICES

The Anambra State Police Command, through the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), will on Friday, December 19, 2025, stage a public awareness walk to discourage cultism and other social vices across the state.

The walk, scheduled to commence at 7:00 a.m. from Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, forms part of the Inspector-General of Police’s ongoing initiatives aimed at promoting peace, security and moral reorientation, particularly among young people.

According to the Command’s Spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the awareness walk is designed to sensitize members of the public on the dangers associated with cultism, drug abuse, violent crimes and other related vices, while encouraging positive behavioural change and active community involvement in crime prevention.

The event is expected to draw wide participation from security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth organisations, tricycle (Keke) and bus drivers’ unions, students, civil society groups and other key stakeholders, all united in a collective resolve to rid Anambra State of cult-related activities and criminal tendencies.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, mnips, PhD, emphasized that POCACOV represents a non-kinetic and community-driven policing strategy that prioritises engagement, advocacy and partnerships over enforcement alone. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to working closely with communities to address the root causes of crime and to promote sustainable peace and development in the state.

The Police Command has called on residents to support and actively participate in the walk, noting that collective action remains critical to effectively tackling cultism and other social vices in Anambra State.
