The Anambra State Police Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has recorded notable security successes across the state during the 2025 ember and December festive season, including the arrest of suspects and the maintenance of public safety.
According to the Command’s Spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, police operations during the period focused on protecting lives and property, responding promptly to reported incidents, and ensuring a peaceful celebration across communities.
One of the key interventions was the arrest of a female suspect over alleged cyberbullying and defamation. Police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) arrested 42-year-old Eucharia Ogochukwu at about 3:20 p.m. on December 31, 2025, in Awka.
The suspect was arrested in connection with allegations of criminal conspiracy, cyberbullying and defamation of character against a senior police officer who previously served in the Anambra State Command.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly coordinated online activities aimed at damaging the reputation of an Assistant Commissioner of Police. Police said she made useful statements during interrogation, while investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other individuals linked to the case.
The Police Command also confirmed that it successfully contained security challenges that arose during town union elections conducted in some communities within the festive period.
According to the police, tensions and disagreements reported in parts of the state were swiftly addressed through the deployment of operatives working in synergy with other security agencies and community stakeholders. The timely interventions, the Command said, prevented a breakdown of law and order, ensured the safety of residents and restored calm in the affected areas.
The Command commended community leaders, town union officials and residents for their cooperation and restraint, noting that their support contributed significantly to the peaceful resolution of the issues.
Residents who remain dissatisfied with the outcome of the town union elections were advised to seek redress through lawful and established channels rather than resorting to actions that could threaten public peace.
Meanwhile, the Police Command disclosed that joint security patrols were intensified across major highways, commercial centres, places of worship and recreational facilities throughout the festive season. This, it said, resulted in a largely peaceful and hitch-free celebration across most parts of Anambra State.
