The Anambra State Police Command has recovered a three-year-old girl who was abducted and allegedly sold by a family apprentice now on the run. The child was rescued in the early hours of Friday, 21 November 2025, following an intelligence-led operation by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu.
Police spokesperson, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, said the case was initially reported at Ogbaru Division, Atani, and involved allegations of conspiracy, child stealing, and harbouring.
According to preliminary findings, the child was abducted by Miss Chioma Anioma, an apprentice to the victim’s family. She reportedly fled to Calabar, Cross River State, where the child was sold to another suspect who is also currently at large.
SP Ikenga explained that Chioma, sensing increased police pressure, abandoned the child at Nnobi in Idemili South Local Government Area. She later contacted the victim’s parents to reveal the location, enabling operatives to retrieve the child safely and reunite her with her family.
The Police Command has intensified efforts to identify, trace, and apprehend all individuals connected to the abduction and trafficking network.
