The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the foiling of an attempted armed attack on Ezinifite Community in Nnewi South Local Government Area in the early hours of today, 27th October 2025.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the swift response of a combined security team comprising Police operatives and members of the Agunechamba Vigilante Group thwarted the attack. The assailants were engaged in a fierce gun duel, resulting in the neutralization of one of the attackers, while others fled into nearby bushes with suspected gunshot wounds.
One pump-action rifle and the body of the neutralized suspect were recovered from the scene.
Meanwhile, coordinated offensive and intelligence-led operations are ongoing in collaboration with Police tactical teams to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, minps, PhD, commended the vigilance and bravery of the joint security operatives. He reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting all communities across the state, particularly as the November 8, 2025 Governorship Election draws near.
