An early morning attack today, May 28, 2021, by armed bandits on Umutu Police Station led to the killing of two policemen while a third officer was said to have died in the hospital due to High Blood Pressure.
The attack took place about 0130 hours, when the armed men in their numbers had stormed Umutu police station and shot sporadically at the station.
It was learnt that due to the proactivity of the policemen coupled with the stiff resistance of the men on duty, the armed men had to retreat but not without two of the armed bandits gunned down while others sustained different degrees of injuries.
As they were retreating, they quickly carried their dead before running away.
Confirming the death, the spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe said “the Command lost two policemen, while one Assistant Superintendent of Police died out of High Blood pressure in the hospital.
Findings however revealed that the late officers were identified as Police Constable Ehioghae Mark and Police Constable Stephen Ebhohmen while the ASP that died of high blood pressure complication was identified as ASP Clement Ofor.
It was further gathered that two motorcycles were burnt; one patrol vehicle and some station accessories were burnt while the gunmen also went away with one pump action gun.
The Commissioner of Police is assuring members of the public that every measure has been put in place to arrest those responsible for this act, and also urges members of the public to help with useful and timely information.
