The Headquarters 81 Division, Nigerian Army, has explained the circumstances surrounding the killing of a soldier while attempting to de-escalate a chaotic situation at Ikorodu.
According to the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 81 Division Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya disclosed in Lagos on Tuesday, 18th November 2025, that a viral video regarding the unfortunate death of a soldier in the Ikorodu general area of Lagos State.
He explained that about 4:00 pm on the 16th November, 2025, one of the soldiers deployed for internal security duty in the Imota area of Ikorodu was killed during an attack while attempting to de-escalate a chaotic situation by a mentally unstable individual.
He noted that an ongoing investigation into the incident has started, adding that it is necessary to provide preliminary information on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Lt Col Yahaya further explained that the attacker struck the soldier on the head with a heavy log, causing severe injury. The situation was swiftly brought under control by other soldiers at the scene, who neutralized the attacker and recovered the soldiers’ weapon.
The injured soldier was evacuated to Ikorodu General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was subsequently buried according to Islamic rite with the Acting Commanding Officer and other officers of the unit in attendance.
Meanwhile, the 81 Division Nigerian Army has conveyed condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the deceased soldier, praying for the repose of his soul and appreciating his service to the nation.
As a result, members of the public are urged to exercise caution and report any suspicious activities to the relevant security agencies.
Similarly, authorities at the 81 Division have also appealed for responsible reporting on this incident and have allowed the ongoing investigation to run its course.
