…TO WIND UP ‘EXERCISE CLEAR SWEEP’
Nigerian Army said on Monday that a total of 2,055 Unexploded Ordnances of various calibres were recovered from the epi centre of a Bomb Blast at Ikeja Cantonment.
It was revealed that the “Exercise Clean Sweep” which began on Tuesday, 10th October 2023, has been successfully completed, and all the recovery and safe disposal of all the bombs.
In order to officially commemorate the successful completion of the exercise, in a statement signed by the Commander, 9 Brigade, Ikeja Cantonment, Brigadier General Adegoke Adetuyi said the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, will be holding a press briefing and closing ceremony at the 9 Brigade Officers’ Mess, Nigerian Army Cantonment Ikeja on 6th December 2023.
The Exercise codenamed “Exercise CLEAN SWEEP”, has cleared the Cantonment of remnants of unexploded ordnances from the site of the 2002 Ikeja Cantonment Bomb Explosion.
It was learnt that several stakeholders would be in attendance including the Executive Governors of Lagos and Ogun States, as well as the heads of relevant security, safety, and emergency management organisations.
It would be recalled that the destruction of the recovered UXOs were carried out at Military Range, Ajilete, Ogun State.
