…COAS LAUDS INTERVENTION
The Nigerian Army (NA) has described it as a welcomed development and laudable intervention as the Federal Government of Nigeria has directed the payment of Group Life Assurance owed to the families of Nigerian Army personnel who died in action.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja gave the commendation today, 12th September 2023, while declaring open the Chief of Army Staff combined 2nd and 3rd Quarters Conference at the Army Headquarters Command Officers’ Mess 1, Asokoro Abuja.
The Army Chief emphasized the critical role of sound administration and troops’ welfare in NA’s operations, adding that troops’ welfare and that of their families will remain preeminent in NA’s efforts under his watch. He averred that NA intends to consolidate on all existing welfare arrangements and schemes to enhance the well-being of troops by providing befitting living quarters for personnel effective medical care to injured personnel and continued support to widows and next-of-kins of the fallen heroes.
These were in a statement by the spokesperson of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu in Abuja.
According to General Lagbaja, he charged field commanders to ensure the maintenance of platforms and equipment in their holding to prolong their life span and enable the nation to optimize its investment.
The COAS pointed out, that the conference is designed to provide a veritable platform to review the Nigerian Army’s administrative, training, logistics, and operational activities, as well as other key issues relating to the service within a quarter, noting, that it will offer participants the opportunity to review decisions taken during the COAS First Quarter Conference 2023.
Highlighting the operational successes of the NA, the Army Chief disclosed that Operation HADIN KAI in the North EAST has effectively curtailed Boko Haram and other terrorist activities in the region, while Operations HADARIN DAJI and WHIRL PUNCH have checkmated banditry and insurgency in the North West and North Central regions.
He added that Operation UDOKA in the South East has effectively curtailed the criminal activities of dissidents.
He charged personnel to remain resolute in their drive to deny all criminal elements in the society the freedom of action, as their dastardly acts have only strengthened the NA’s resolve to intensify the onslaught against them.
The COAS expressed gratitude to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his strategic guidance and the confidence reposed on the leadership of the Armed Forces of Nigeria. He reiterated the unalloyed loyalty and commitment of the NA to the Constitution of the Federal Republic.
Highpoint of the event was the presentation of 8 Toyota Hilux Vehicles to Army Warrant Officers (AWO) who have attained the pinnacle of their soldiering career.
