An unidentified inmate of the Kirikiri Correctional facility, Lagos has been linked to an alleged gun running activity, investigation by the Nigerian Army reveals.
It was learnt that the suspect coordinated the activities from the detention facility.
However, the suspect, with two of his gang members arrested confessed orchestrating the deal to support criminal activities in Zamfara State.
The two suspected gunrunners were apprehended in Ondo State, South West Nigeria, by troops of 323 Artillery Regiment operating in Igbara-Oke, Ifedore Local Government Area as part of other numerous arrest in the month of July by the force.
During arrest, the two gunrunners were trying to acquire firearms from a local supplier.

Similarly, in several coordinated operations by personnel of the Nigerian Army in some parts of the country, have led to the decimation of some terrorists and disruption of gun-running syndicates.
In the North-East, it was learnt that the sustained operational tempo yielded positive results as two relatives of terrorists—an adult female and a child—voluntarily surrendered to troops of 202 Battalion in Bama, Borno State.
According to preliminary reports, they were said to have escaped from the CHURCHUR axis, underscoring the intensifying pressure being mounted on terrorist strongholds.
Similarly, troops of 120 Task Force Battalion deployed in Katarko, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, apprehended a suspected terrorist who attempted to breach a secured perimeter.
The suspect, who claimed Nigerien origin, could not communicate in any recognized Nigerian language, raising suspicions of transnational involvement and necessitating further investigation.
In the North-West, troops of 1 Battalion Rear in response to discreet intelligence, intercepted cattle rustling attempt in Sauna Village, Argungu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
Upon contact, the perpetrators fled, abandoning 251 rustled cows. The livestock were subsequently recovered and returned to their rightful owners, reinforcing public confidence in military protection.
Also in Ondo State, South West Nigeria, troops of 323 Artillery Regiment operating in Igbara-Oke, Ifedore Local Government Area, intercepted two suspected gunrunners who attempted to acquire firearms from a local supplier.
Further investigation revealed a disturbing link to an inmate in Kirikiri Correctional Facility in Lagos, who allegedly orchestrated the deal to support criminal activities in Zamfara State.

Further operations in Delta State led to the discovery of a tricycle concealed with approximately 200 litres of suspected illegally refined diesel along the Jeddo–Omadino axis in Warri South Local Government Area.
In another development, in a separate clearance operation, troops of 63 Brigade Garrison stormed a suspected IPOB/ESN hideout in Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area, arresting seven suspects and recovering a motorcycle, four mobile phones, and other miscellaneous items.
These successful engagements reflect the Nigerian Army’s resolute commitment to safeguarding national security and preserving public peace. The tempo of operations will remain relentless as the troops continue to confront all forms of insecurity with professionalism and strategic precision.
In Sokoto State, troops of 8 Division Garrison deployed at Forward Operating Bases in Tsamaye and Mai Lalle, Sabon Birni Local Government Area, engaged armed elements in a fierce firefight, neutralizing two terrorists and compelling others to abandon their positions. The troops recovered three AK-47 rifles and a motorcycle at the scene, further degrading the operational capacity of the fleeing insurgents.
Other series of precision-led and intelligence-driven operations across multiple theatres, the Nigerian Army has recorded decisive gains in its ongoing campaign against terrorism and other emerging security threats. The operations resulted in the neutralization of two terrorists, arrest of 11 suspects, voluntary surrender of two terrorist family members, and the recovery of arms, logistics, and rustled livestock.
