The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya has called on Nigerian Army Personnel to brace up to the challenge; be creative, and improve problem-solving skills to be able to defeat all adversaries, particularly non-state actors.
To achieve this, he calls for prudent utilisation of financial and other resources, especially in the face of competing demands.
Lt Gen Yahaya spoke on Wednesday while declaring opened Nigerian Army Finance Corps biennial conference with the theme “Delivering Professional and Innovative Financial Services in a Joint Security Environment” held at the Nebo Hall, Abalti Barracks, Ojuelegba, Surulere, Lagos.
The Chief of Army Staff who was represented by Maj Gen KO Kadiri at the 13th Nigerian Army Finance Corps Biennial Training Conference added that it provides a unique forum to build capacity, and increase knowledge and skills in financial management, in line with global best practices.
Noting that the Nigerian Army Finance Corps plays a very important role in the financial management and prudence of the forces, says it remains central to the performance and effectiveness of the NA both in operations and peacetime.
“The Training Conference is specifically designed to improve the capacity and competencies of officers to enable them to operate optimally towards operational efficiency and career progression.
For the Nigerian Army to remain competitive in the 21st Century, it must continue to develop requisite skills and competencies that would make it ever ready to achieve its constitutional roles.
“The Nigerian Army must, therefore, be creative and improve problem-solving skills to be able to defeat all adversaries, particularly non-state actors. To achieve this, the prudent utilisation of financial and other resources cannot be overemphasized, especially in the face of competing demands.
Without a doubt, the duties and responsibilities of the Nigerian Army Finance Corps remain central to the performance and effectiveness of the Nigerian Army both in operations and peacetime. This is great a responsibility to which the Corps must continually meet expectations at every level of the Nigerian Army.
“As financial advisers and custodians of Nigerian Army financial resources, you are expected to provide professional and innovative financial services in line with extant regulations.
“The judicious and efficient use of resources is crucial given the anti-corruption drive of the Federal Government of Nigeria, especially with dwindling national revenue sequel to the global economic crises,” the COAS reiterated.
