It was all smiles and ecstasy for soldiers of the Nigerian Army on Saturday as the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai commissions eight blocks of flats renovated and furnished for Corporal and below at the Agwan Doki, Ikeja Cantonment, Lagos.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Buratai was represented by the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 81 Division Nigerian Army, Maj. Gen. Godwin Umelo.
Delivering the COAS’s remarks, the GOC, Maj. Gen. Umelo advised soldiers and their families to make good use of the houses and furniture after handing over keys to some beneficiaries during the occasion.
“This is in line with the Chief of Army Staff determination to ensure that personnel of the Nigerian Army are better accommodated and live in a well-furnished apartment with their families.”
The epoch making ceremony of the eight blocks with each block consisting of 10 flats each, was witnessed by Officers, Soldiers and their families at the cantonment, venue of the commissioning of the renovated and furnished Corporal below accommodation.
In attendance were the Commander, 9 Brigade, Brigadier General Musa Etsu-Ndagi, Commander 45 Engineers Brigade, Brigadier General A. Salako, Deputy Chief Of Staff, 81 Division Colonel Franklin Babatunde, 9 Brigade Chief of Staff, Colonel Maikarfi lbrahim, 9 Brigade Officers, Soldiers and their families.
