
The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, on Saturday, 31st May, 2025, facilitated the Nigerian Navy for its new acquisition of three ships and three helicopters to boost the fight against sea robbers and other maritime criminal elements.
Accordingly, he joined other Nigerians in congratulating the Nigerian Navy for these feats.
He explained that it was a remarkable feat of inducting three Leonardo A-109 Trekker helicopters and commissioning three ships, NNS Ikogosi, NNS Faro, and NNS Shere.

Air Marshal Abubakar said that the induction of the new assets is “a significant leap that will further enhance jointness and better position the Armed Forces of Nigeria to fulfil its constitutional obligations.”
The commissioning of the three ships stands as a powerful testament to the Federal Government of Nigeria’s unwavering commitment to enhancing the nation’s defence architecture and advancing the vision of a safer, more secure Nigeria.
The platforms were inaugurated by the Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Matawalle, who stood in for the President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The event, which was held at the NNS Beecroft Jetty Apapa, had in attendance other Service Chiefs, Captains of industries and members of the diplomatic corps.

In another development, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, on Sunday, disclosed that the Nigerian Airforce ongoing 470 infrastructure projects have gulped over ₦61 billion nationwide.
He revealed this while commissioning a remodelled 160-ensuite airmen’s accommodation at Sam Ethnan Air Force Base, Lagos, noting that such ongoing projects have reached 63 per cent completion stage.
In a statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI), Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame further revealed that the CAS has approved a 100 percent review of Ration Cash Allowance (RCA) for officers in 2025 as part of its personnel welfare package.
