The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has authorized the deployment of a Special Operations Brigade to Sokoto and Kebbi States to crush the notorious Lakurawas terrorists that have infiltrated the region as a behemoth.
The deployment, it was gathered is in consonance with the ongoing Operation Forest Sanity III (CHASE LAKURAWAS OUT).
It was learnt that it’s aimed at consolidating the successes achieved in other operations tailored to bring the insipid activities of the Lakurawas terrorists to an end.
This disclosure was made on Friday by the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 8 Division, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ibikunle Ajose.
The GOC, who is also the Commander, Sector 2 Operation FASAN YAMMA, spoke on behalf of the Theatre Commander, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Oluyinka Soyele, who urged the troops to see to the decapitation of Lakurawas and their adherents.
Brig Gen Ajose implored the troops not to relent in their efforts but be proficient, professional and abide by the rules of engagement that will protect the right of citizens.
It was gathered that the deployment of the Brigade, troops of the 8 Division under Operation FANSAN YAMMA had conducted series of shaping up operations in Rumji Dutse East of Sarma, Tsauna, and Bauni leading to the destruction of about 22 camps, killing of several members of the notorious group, and recovery of four rifles, 409 PKT 7.62mm NATO rounds, and 94 7.62mm special rounds ammunition.
Brig Gen Ajose further disclosed that Nigerians are counting on their invaluable support and ability to liberate the region from the grips of notorious terrorists, noting that before being deployed, they have been carefully selected and trained for this mission and are expected to demonstrate exceptional professionalism.
