CDS RECEIVES GRAND RECEPTION FROM SOUTH AFRICAN COUNTERPART, HARPS ON SECURITY COOPERATION

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, on July 1, 2024, paid a historic official visit to the Chief of South Africa National Defence Force (SANDF), General Rudzani Maphwanya in Pretoria, South Africa.

The CDS was received by his South African counterpart in his office. General Musa was also honored with Cannon Gun Salutes as a mark of high regard.

According to the Director Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the meeting was aimed at discussing matters of mutual benefits and possible areas of cooperation, which saw both leaders discussing closed doors, adding that during the meeting, the Chief of SANDF highlighted the significance of the meeting between the two largest economies and military powers on the African continent.

He said the CDS further described the meeting as a panacea to addressing the multifaceted challenges bedeviling the continent. The need for cooperation and reinforcement of bilateral ties were also discussed and various measures to address regional security challenges were looked at. 

Furthermore, the exchange of expertise and the need to forge stronger ties between the two countries for the betterment of the continent were considered.   Those present at the meeting were the SANDF Chiefs of Intelligence, Policy and Plans, International Affairs, and Joint Operations amongst other departmental chiefs of the SANDF.
