…HIGHLIGHTS THE IMPERATIVE OF BLUE ECONOMY
The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, has reiterated that Nigeria’s delisting from piracy-prone areas in 2022 and the current successes of anti-crude oil theft operations are significant in national security reengineering.
The CNS who delivered a thought-provoking lecture on Wednesday, 29th January 2025, at the National Defence College Abuja titled: “Maritime Security and National Development – The Role of the Nigerian Navy” was at the instance of NDC Course 33 participants.
It was gathered that in the lecture, the CNS gave an overview of Nigeria’s Maritime Domain, analysing the threats within the domain and the NN’s strategic responses to these threats before highlighting the numerous successes achieved by the NN.
On the Blue Economy, the CNS presented a future outlook for the NN while emphasizing its potential for National wealth.
In another development, a team of experts from the Admiralty Integrated Farms Limited led by the Managing Director, Rear Admiral JA Nwagu visited the Central Naval Command (CNC) headquarters in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
On arrival, they were received by the Flag Officer Commanding (CNC), Rear Admiral AA Gaya at the Central Command headquarters.
It was learnt that the visit was to enhance the Nigerian Navy’s (NN) participation in agricultural development, as directed by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
As a multiplying effect and to boost food production, the NN is focusing on fishery farming, animal husbandry, and plantation farming to attract foreign exchange and ensure food security in the nation.
By extension, increased naval involvement in fisheries will also improve security against piracy and promote sustainable fishing.
In his remarks, the FOC CNC, Rear Admiral Gaya praised the initiative while highlighting its importance in diversifying the military’s role in agriculture; assuring of the full support for the initiative within the CNC’s Area of Responsibility.
