It was a sad moment for the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla and some principal staff officers when they paid a condolence visit to the family of late Lieutenant Commander Gideon Yashim Gwaza, who died while rescuing 59 victims from a sinking dredging vessel.
The late Lieutenant Commander Gwaza passed on in the early hours of July 30, 2024, when he led his team to rescue 59 persons on the verge of drowning onboard a dredging vessel, MV AMBIKA 4 at Okpobo River entrance.
The visit on Thursday, August 22, 2024, by the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ogalla gave the singular opportunity to console the immediate family (wife and children). He enjoined the widow and children of the late officer to take heart despite the physical absence of their breadwinner.
He further assured them that the Nigerian Navy will not forget Lieutenant Commander Gwaza’s sacrifice and would continue to stand with the family.
According to the Commodore Aiyuwor Adams-Aliu, Director Naval Information (DINFO), the visit was basically solemn but encouraging to the family.
