The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has assured officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army of improved welfare packages aimed at boosting morale and enhancing operational effectiveness.
General Shaibu gave the assurance on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, while addressing troops of the 18 Brigade at Latini Barracks, Bida, Niger State, during an operational visit to the formation.

He reaffirmed that the Nigerian Army, under his leadership, remains fully committed to prioritising the welfare of personnel and their families, describing it as a critical pillar for sustaining operational success across all theatres of operation.
In a statement by the Acting Director, ARMY Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, COAS said, troop welfare is receiving continuous and deliberate attention, as he commended the officers and soldiers of 18 Brigade for their dedication and efforts in maintaining relative peace within their Area of Responsibility.

He charged the troops to remain resolute and professional in their operations, urging them to sustain the momentum in degrading and neutralising bandits and terrorists in order to restore public confidence and further enhance security.
General Shaibu also disclosed plans by the Army High Command to construct additional accommodation facilities and establish skills acquisition centres, aimed at improving the overall well-being of personnel and economically empowering the families of serving soldiers.
The visit, he noted, forms part of his ongoing engagements with frontline formations to assess operational challenges, boost morale, and reinforce the Army’s commitment to the welfare and combat readiness of its troops.
