COAS URGES TROOPS TO SUSTAIN PROFESSIONALISM 3

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has urged troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to remain professional, resolute, and committed to the Nigerian Army’s mandate of restoring peace and stability across the North-West region.

Lt. Gen. Shaibu made the call on Thursday, 20 November 2025, during his maiden operational visit to the Operation’s Area of Responsibility (AOR) in Gusau, Zamfara State. The visit was disclosed in a statement by the Army spokesperson, Lt. Col. Appolonia Anele.

Addressing personnel on the frontlines, the COAS commended their courage, resilience, and sacrifices despite the complex security challenges in the region. He assured the troops that the Army leadership is prioritizing solutions to both operational and welfare issues affecting them.

The COAS revealed that he had earlier received a detailed briefing from the Theatre Commander on the security situation and the challenges confronting troops. Inputs from personnel across the land and air components, as well as representatives of the Chiefs of Naval and Air Staff, were also documented and are being treated with urgency, he said.

Lt. Gen. Shaibu reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to improving welfare support, motivation, equipment, and overall combat readiness, emphasizing that these remain key priorities under his leadership.

He encouraged troops to maintain discipline and uphold the values of the Nigerian Armed Forces, noting that their efforts have enabled residents in affected communities to continue their daily activities with improved confidence.

“These challenges are transient. Remain resolute, remain determined, and continue to do your job with professionalism. The Nigerian people appreciate your service,” he told the troops.

The COAS also praised the strong inter-service cooperation that continues to bolster ongoing operations and assured personnel that the military leadership is fully committed to improving their working conditions and operational effectiveness.
